Glen Ragou Cup Information
Glen Ragou Cup - General Information

As most of you are aware our great friend and squash player Glen Ragou passed away two years ago. An annual tournament is being held in his memory, where a masters team from the “North” play a masters team from the “South”.  It is hoped that up to 50 players per team will enter. Each player will be paired up against an opponent of a similar standard/age. All matches will be PAR scoring best of 5 games. There will be additional North v South competitions in the bar afterwards. This event is intended to be a social but competitive one, with the winning team presented with the Glen Ragou cup. A BBQ will be available throughout the day and the matches will be followed with food and drinks and a live band in the evening. Players are encouraged to socialise afterwards and stay over as we all know that Glen liked to play and party hard!  Apart from a great day of squash and an evening of entertainment all profits will be going to charity.

Just to confirm the second Glen Ragou Memorial Cup is being held at Sutton Coldfield Squash Club, Highbridge Rd, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, B73 5QB on Saturday 9th September 2017. Play will start approximately midday, with all players expected to be there for that time and the event will finish when the bar closes!

Once we have an exact number the teams will be chosen. Those from Central England will be slotted into one of the teams. To ensure that teams are an even standard and even on numbers we may need to slot those with roots from the opposite region to where they live into the other team. This will all be calculated nearer the date and t-shirts will then be printed accordingly and handed out on the day.

So what have we got in store for you throughout the day for your £25 entry fee:

  • A competitive game of squash
  • Chance to assist in some marking & refereeing
  • Some fun team games in the bar after the squash
  • A BBQ throughout the day
  • A buffet in the evening
  • A live band in the evening
  • The presentation of the Glen Ragou cup to the winning team by Glen’s sister and son
  • Any profits made over this event will be given to a Cancer charity of the family’s choice
  • Fun, Laughter and lots of smiling just as Glen would have wanted

Organisers: Alison Goy, Ian Bradburn, Mark Cowley, Isabelle Tweedle and Andy Murray.
